Aziron
“The City of a Thousand Colors is everything it claims. From the blue skin of its residents to the rainbow of its architecture, it dazzles. Magic is everywhere! It breathes from the city, infusing even the most mundane parts of life. Being amongst the Azir is akin to stepping in a new reality, one where the elements are children’s friends and even the sky is no limit. I cannot wait to see what those who have taken magic as their art have accomplished, but that will wait until my journey to the Arch Mage’s Isle.” - From the Journal of the Unnamed Traveler

Geography
Barren plains leading to scrubland desert make up a large portion of Aziron’s geography. Due to this, most Azir live closer to the purple mountains where more fertile ground is found. The capital, however, lies even more north on the volcanic plains where dark rock is covered by emerald mosses. Of course there is also the Mage’s Sea and the Arch Mage’s Isle, both large reasons for the capital to rest where it does.
Politics/Culture
Aziron is ruled by a hereditary monarch although the Arch Mage is also an important figure. In general, the Arch Mage stays out of the politics of Aziron until it connects with the maintaining of Azir magic. While every Azir is born with magic, only a small percent pursue it as their life’s work and go to live on the Arch Mage’s Isle to become true mages.
The hereditary nature of Azir magic leads to a number of peculiarities in Azir culture. Most Azir do not leave the country and marriage to yuji (non-Azir) is frowned upon. This gives the Azir a not entirely undeserved xenophobic reputation. The concern with inheritance of Azir magic also creates a fluctuation population problem. Azir marry and have children young in order to pass on their magic, however lean towards smaller family sizes because each child will have less magic than their older sibling. The Arch Mage and their apprentices make it their business to follow the flow of magic and those who do not choose the traditional Azir lifestyle, may butt heads with their magical psuedo-government.
